
UrbanAmerica plan pulled

*Just before voting on a $2 billion plan to revitalize Hempstead Village's downtown, Mayor Wayne Hall pulled UrbanAmerica’s proposal from consideration Tuesday night.
Citing “irreconcilable differences” between village trustees over the proposed redevelopment, Hall mentioned concerns about the mortgage rates and a declining housing market.

Citing “irreconcilable differences” between village trustees over the proposed redevelopment, Hall mentioned concerns about the mortgage rates and a declining housing market.
Opinion: It might have been the best move to nix the plan out of the Trustee's hands. This might create another opportunity to present the proposed site plan once again. The proposed plan would have created about 5,200 construction jobs, 1,200 permanent jobs and about $35 million a year in tax revenue.
